JJ Abrams and Bad Robot Sign Mega TV and Film Deal With WarnerMedia – The Wrap
WarnerMedia has finalized its massive film and TV deal with J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production company.
The deal gives the media powerhouse exclusive rights to any film, TV show, video game, and streaming content from Abrams’ Bad Robot outfit. WarnerMedia did not disclose financial terms of the deal.
The wide-ranging agreement begins immediately — meaning that Abrams will exit his film deal with Paramount — and runs through at least 2024. Bad Robot will fulfill any existing obligations with Paramount, including the seventh “Mission Impossible” film, and Abrams is directing and producing Disney’s upcoming “Star Wars” film, “The Rise of Skywalker.”
The deal gives WarnerMedia a major producer in its stead while it preps the launch of its streaming service, HBO Max, which will be out next spring. WarnerMedia will give more details about the upcoming service at its investor day on Oct. 29. Bad Robot, run by Abrams and his wif ...

The ‘Downton Abbey’ movie is the horniest PG-rated film ever – Mashable
As we close out the decade, only one beloved TV show of the 2010s has achieved the elusive, hallowed achievement of #SixSeasonsAndAMovie: Downton Abbey.
From creator Julian Fellowes (who wrote nearly every Downton episode), the film is a thin excuse to reunite us with the likes of Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes (Jim Carter and Phyllis Logan), to delight in the mutual bullying of sisters Mary and Edith (Michelle Dockery and Laura Carmichael), and to cackle at the merciless roasts of the Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith).
The entire premise was revealed in the trailer: The King and Queen of England are coming to Downton, and both upstairs and downstairs must curb their giddy patriotism long enough to uphold the social ceremony by which they live. It's essentially an episode of Downton and plays out as such...

Netflix is targeting a huge new audience with its next big content push – BGR
Netflix is eating up an increasingly large share of entertainment consumption time for Americans, who now have more choices than ever about what to binge. Much of users' favorite content on the platform is increasingly courtesy of Netflix itself -- we all know the service, for example, as the home of original series like Stranger Things, Narcos and Ozark, plus a slew of Netflix-commissioned foreign fare as well as Netflix original movies like Triple Frontier and Always Be My Maybe.
Even so, the streamer's appetite for eventually replacing TV for everyone extends far beyond merely adults like you. The next big content push includes a slate of original programming Netflix unveiled on Monday that's aimed at a whole different audience -- preschoolers.
As part of the announcement, Netflix released descriptions of seven new series coming from respected Hollywood creative talent that will target children between the ages of 2 and 6. The slate runs a gamut from educational programming to ...

Exclusive data predicted Netflix’s weakness in key markets before its huge subscriber miss, and could hold clues about future growth (NFLX) – Silicon Alley
Netflix posted weaker than expected subscriber growth all around the world during the second quarter.
While the company didn't dive into detail about regions outside of the US, third-party data hints at where Netflix may have stumbled the most during the period, including in Brazil and India, two important markets.
Price hikes and increased competition could be two factors that hurt Netflix.

Netflix posted one of the worst subscriber-growth misses in its history during the second quarter, losing subscribers in the US and adding just 2.7 million globally.
The company blamed the weak quarter on a slate of original TV series and movies that didn't draw in as many subscribers as anticipated and seasonality, as well as price increases that hit some users around the world during the quarter.
"Our missed forecast was across all regions, but slightly more so in regions with price increase," the company said, in a letter to shareholders on Wednesday...

Universal Music Says Just 22 ‘Original Masters’ Were Destroyed In the 2008 Fire — Affecting Just 5 Artists – Digital Music News
The claims coincide with Universal Music Group’s efforts to toss a class action lawsuit carrying damages of $100 million. Perhaps the 2008 Universal Studios fire was just a bunch of billowing smoke? Top 50 Most Viewed YouTube Channels Worldwide • Week Of 6/9/2019 – Tubefilter
It's another weekly installment of the Tubefilter Chart of the Top 50 Most Viewed YouTube Channels Worldwide and T-Series is yet again at the top.
T-Series is in first place for the third week running, though it's showing at least some signs that at least one channel could replace it at some point int he not-so-distant future.
The Indian music record label and film production company took a 7% hit in its weekly view count to drop down to a still almost inconceivable 630.4 million views. Not too far behind at just shy of 611 million views is the US-based child-friendly Cocomelon - Nursery Rhymes.
In the #3 spot is SET India. The YouTube home for Sony Entertainment Television's Indian iteration was up 5% to amass just about 347.6 million views during the week. In a close fourth place is Vlad and Nikita. The once Russian and now American family vlog channel jumped up 10% to take home over 335.2 million views...

Report Says EU ISPs Are Happily Ignoring Net Neutrality Rules – TechDirt
A few years ago, the European Union passed some fairly decent net neutrality rules that went notably further than the FCC's 2015 rules we just discarded here in the States. They not only prohibited ISPs from unjustly blocking, throttling, or restricting access to services the ISP may compete with, they imposed some basic protections governing zero rating -- a practice ISPs here in the US have increasingly been using anti-competitively.
The problem for the EU is that after the European Union's Body of European Regulators of Electronic Communications (BEREC) crafted the guidelines, it was up to individual countries to interpret and enforce them, something that apparently hasn't been going all that well. According to a new coalition of 45 academics, nonprofits, and private companies, European ISPs are routinely tap dancing around the restrictions. Under the current rules, European ISPs are allowed to inspect and shape traffic using "deep packet inspection" (DPI) tech...
