If the main hangup that’s kept you from purchasing Snap’s Spectacles has been their design, two new models that the company is introducing today might eliminate those hesitations. Snap has just announced the new Veronica and Nico styles of Spectacles 2. They contain all the same features and recording quality improvements as the model first introduced in April, but this time inside a more traditional look. It maybe won’t be quite so obvious that you’re wearing Spectacles anymore.

The new models of Spectacles are also different in a couple of other ways: they've got polarized lenses, and they come with a nondescript, black “semi-soft” case instead of the bright yellow hard case you get with the original...

Android P is still in super-duper developer-only beta mode, but you only need to look at an iPhone X to see what your Pixel phone will look like once the new models land later this summer.Okay, I kid, but there’s no denying that Google has taken at least some inspiration from Apple’s thousand-dollar flagship phone. First there’s the support for “cutout” displays, better known as The Notch. One of Android P’s premier features will be proper support for cameras that jut into the screen, so apps, videos, and status bars can display properly...

A report on Monday sent Apple’s stock down by 1.6% after revealing that Apple has purportedly cut iPhone X orders by 20 million for the current quarter, or half of the initial estimates. Apple, the same report said, would make 30 million non-iPhone X handsets during the period, including the iPhone 8, a number that hasn’t changed.
A day later, one of Apple’s iPhone X suppliers went on record to say the order cuts aren’t “that great.”
“Our understanding is that it is not that great,” Murata vice chairman Yoshitaka Fujita said when asked about the report Nikkei ran on Monday.
It’s surprising to see a supplier go on record about its dealings with Apple. But that’s all Fujita had to say on the matter, according to Reuters. The exec did not reveal any other details about Murata’s dealings with Apple for the iPhone X
Murata is one of the two makers of flexible printed circuit boards (FPCB) for the iPhone X, a...

A district court in Illinois has ruled that law enforcement may force people to use their fingerprints to unlock Apple devices during the search of a house. The ruling overturns a decision from a lower court, and marks a significant increase in the steps cops can take to force people to unlock devices.
The ruling only applies in one particular case, with a very specific set of circumstances. Police officers had already obtained a warrant to search a house, looking for child pornography. They expected to find at least one iPad and one iPhone on the premises, and wanted to be able to force any occupants found on the premises to unlock the devices using Touch ID during the search.
The rationale was that the cops already had a search warrant for the house and for the devices, and that they had a reasonable suspicion that any devices found would belong to the people in the house at the time of the search. They also stressed the fact that due to mobile device encryption, using Touch ID ...
Amid reports that Apple has been busy developing a pair of advanced smart glasses, Tim Cook went on record during a recent interview with The Independent and essentially put to bed any hopes that such a product might see the light of day anytime soon. Though Cook didn't deny Apple's interest in such a product, he flat-out said that the technology needed to make such a product feasible simply isn't mature enough right now.
"But today I can tell you the technology itself doesn't exist to do [smart glasses] in a quality way," Cook said. "The display technology required, as well as putting enough stuff around your face – there’s huge challenges with that. The field of view, the quality of the display itself, it’s not there yet."
Cook also emphasized that Apple's top priority is to be the best, not the first. That being the case, Cook said that any type of smart glasses product Apple would release today wouldn't be anything that Apple or consumers "would be sati...
In a series of tweets, Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore has revealed that the software giant is no longer developing new features or hardware for Windows 10 Mobile. While Windows Phone fans had hoped Microsoft would update the platform with new features, it’s now clear the operating system has been placed into servicing mode, with just bug fixes and security updates for existing users.
“Of course we'll continue to support the platform.. bug fixes, security updates,” says Belfiore. “But building new features/hw aren't the focus.” During the recent Windows 10 Fall Creators Update development phase, it has been obvious Microsoft is no longer working on the mobile experience. The software maker branched its development process into “feature2,”...
Apple CEO Tim Cook: We’re working hard to meet demand for Apple Watch and iPhone 8 from CNBC.
« Nous sommes aussi en rupture sur les iPhone 8 et 8 Plus dans quelques magasins, mais nous avons un bon approvisionnement ». Il ne devrait pas être trop compliqué de trouver et d’acheter un iPhone 8 ce week-end dans un Apple Store. En ce qui concerne la gamme d’iPhone, qui s’est élargie à la faveur de la présentation de l’iPhone X...

The communications market is in the midst of an all-out war. The deluge of messaging apps, such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, WeChat, and Viber, have over-run the segment traditionally owned by SMS and a massive revenue generator for wireless carriers.
And consumers are beginning to view these chat apps not as messaging platforms but as portals to the internet. This is threatening the control Google and Apple have over the mobile ecosystem via Android and iOS. And while Apple addressed this concern with the introduction of iMessage in 2011, Google has largely left Android’s messaging capabilities up to phone makers and carriers to deal with.
For their part, device manufacturers are looking for the newest technology to make their products more appealing than the next vendor’s, as the smartphone market be...

Steve Jobs, the late cofounder and CEO of Apple, was known as much for his difficult managerial style and confrontational attitude as he was for his unrivaled product vision.
In his first public appearance in five years, ex-Apple exec and iPhone co-inventor Scott Forstall said that there was a lot more to Jobs than met the eye. He says that any given random lunch with Jobs could be more stressful than a sit-down dinner with a world leader, sure — but there was a softer side to him, too.
"[Jobs] was really compassionate and dedicated to his friends and relatives," Forstall says.
Forstall's comments came at an event at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California.
Since his controversial departure from Apple in 2012, Forstall had never spoken publicly about his time at the company until now. And while Forstall did not directly address his parting of ways with Apple, he did take the time to highlight the depth of his admiration for Steve Jobs...

Yesterday, Apple announced the latest reiteration of its mobile operating system and while regular consumers will have to wait until autumn to try out the new iOS 11 on their iPhone and iPad devices, developers are already taking advantage of their early access to the beta version. Redditors who have already installed the developer beta are reporting that Apple has purportedly included full playback support for FLAC audio files in iOS 11. This means users now have the option to blast high-quality music files straight from their iPads and iPhones. The functionality was first spotted on an iPhone 6S Plus running iOS 11 Beta…
Apple is behaving in a really strange way right now regarding the mythical "Apple Car." After hiring 1,000 people to work on a secret program called "Project Titan," which many believed to be the development of an "Apple Car," the company laid off hundreds of them late last year. Observers interpreted that as one of Apple's periodic experiments: The company looked at what it would take to build a car, and then decided not to.
And yet, Business Insider's Sam Shead recently discovered a secret Apple office in Berlin which — sources tell us — is devoted mostly to transportation. The engineers there were hired from car companies and some are working on mapping projects.
So is Apple working on a car or not?
UBS analyst Steven Milunovich hosted a conversation with Horace Dediu (of Asymco.com) and Neil Cybart (of AboveAvalon.com) recently. He asked them what they thought was going on inside Project Titan. They raised four issues...
