Getty loses UK case against Stability AI

The UK High Court has ruled in favor of Stability AI in the Getty Images case, holding that the Stable Diffusion artificial intelligence model does not constitute « unlawful copying » of protected images. This interpretation represents a significant departure from the opinion published last May by the U.S. Copyright Office.

On November 4, 2025, the High Court of Justice of England and Wales handed down its long-awaited decision in Getty Images (US) Inc. et al v. Stability AI Limited, the first UK case to deal directly with the training of a generative artificial intelligence model from protected images.
