After the fiascos of the « influencers » and « online hate » laws, and then that of the PJL Sécurité numérique, French texts that were all the subject of infringement proceedings by the European Commission, a Prime Minister’s circular published a few days ago reframes all ministers on the issue of adapting French law to European law. Unfortunately, this circular comes a little late to address the Ministry of Culture’s lack of anticipation with regard to the Media Freedom Act.. The last twelve months have seen the emergence in France, to great publicity, of several pieces of legislation in the digital field, including the law on online influencers and that on establishing an age of digital majority and the fight against online hate. We’ve also been following the saga of the bill initially known as the law adapting French law to the Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act, which later became the PJL Sécurité numérique. In order to preserve the uniformity of law in the single market, member states are now highly restricted when adopting any measures relating to the digital sector.
