CMOs digital challenges: results of Polish survey
The Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU has just published the results of its survey of member states on the current challenges facing collective management organisations (CMOs). Among them, the technological difficulty of identifying works produced by AIs, which is one of the emerging topics, as well as the wide disparity in compliance with governance rules between CMOs.
Against a backdrop of rapid technological change, in early 2025 the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union launched an in-depth consultation with member states on the future of copyright collective management organizations (CMOs), the results of which it has just been published. The aim: to take stock of practices, assess the relevance of the European regulatory framework, and identify emerging points of tension. The responses received reveal contrasting evolutions, notably on the uses of artificial intelligence (AI), control mechanisms and the effects of the regulation on OGC governance.
