Brussels relaunches the legislative machine: a dense 2026 program for digital and culture

The European Commission’s work program for 2026, although limited to a small number of initiatives, promises to be a decisive period, requiring constant commitment from the companies involved.

The European Commission’s new work program for 2026 confirms one thing: European regulatory production has not said its last word. Although it is less comprehensive on paper than those of previous years – only some 40 initiatives compared with 45 in 2025 – it remains no less busy for companies, national authorities and digital players. Behind the lofty ambitions of « competitiveness », « innovation » and « digital fairness » lies a year marked by a series of technical and potentially weighty text proposals to be negotiated in Parliament and the Council.
A salvo of proposals from the start of the year
Three proposals, expected as early as the first quarter of 2026, will set the tone. The 28ᵉ company law regime aims to offer an optional, transnational legal framework for companies operating in several member states….
