AI and culture: the CULT rapporteur wants to go beyond the AI Act
The AI Act does not bring the European debate on artificial intelligence and culture to a close. Proof of this is the draft report on ‘the cultural and creative sectors in the age of AI’ by Hélder Sousa Silva, a Portuguese MEP from the Partido Social Democrata and a member of the EPP, which was presented yesterday to the CULT Committee. As we shall see, this draft report is itself a continuation of the Voss report… on generative AI and copyright, adopted by the Parliament in March, from which it takes up several demands (transparency of training data, standardised opt-out and identification of web crawlers), whilst breaking them down sector by sector, with specific measures for music, the audiovisual sector, video games, publishing, cultural heritage and the press.
