Alphabet’s improved monetization of YouTube is good news for rightsholders, however the platform’s revenues remain low compared to usage, says Cécile Rap-Veber, director of licensing, international and operations at Sacem.

YouTube represents a growing share of Alphabet’s revenues. Since the third quarter of 2020, there has even been an explosion in revenues from the video platform, due to increased monetization opportunities. As a result, YouTube is growing faster than the search engine Google! Music is one of the most popular contents on YouTube, either for music videos or as a soundtrack for all kinds of videos.
