Pascal Bittard : “ User Centric is one of the most interesting proposals today”

In 15 years, Idol has established itself as a distribution specialist in the online music market. Streaming has driven the growth of this music start-up founded by Pascal Bittard at a time when he himself confides that the economic environment of music was still very uncertain. With a 25 million euros turnover, Idol is not at the level of Believe Digital, but it is weighing on a growing market. Its founder tell us about the prerequisites for growth in the market, but also the problems arising from streaming, and particularly the remuneration of artists or data transparency, at a moment when the French market reaches 10 million subscribers, Spotify in the lead.

ElectronLibre: What is the current situation of the music market and how do you see it evolve ?

Pascal Bittard: Today the music offer is very well positioned, and quite competitive on the market. For ten euros, the main players in the market offer 99% of the catalogs released since the beginning of recorded music.

15 years ago, nobody wanted to pay for music anymore, young people had plenty of other expenses, music was free in most people’s minds. Today, the public is willing to pay again. They are used to paying 30, 40 or even 60 euros a month with phone subscriptions, and much more for movies and TV shows. Between Netflix, Apple, Disney, Amazon, OCS and the others, today you have to pay 90 euros or more every month if you want a decent offer.
