Many MEPs reaffirmed their support for creators at an event organized by GESAC yesterday in Brussels. Commission Vice-President Henna Virkkunen delivered her first-ever speech to the cultural sector.
Gesac, which represents the collective management societies of the entire cultural sector in Brussels, organized a « Meet the Authors » event at the European Parliament yesterday, under the patronage of MEPs Laurence Farreng, Marcos Ros Sempere and Bogdan Zdrojewski. Numerous music, photography and audiovisual authors from all over the EU and even beyond – there was a Norwegian – spoke out on all the difficult issues on which they need the EU’s support. The impact of AI, the consequences of the shift to the streaming model, and the imposition of contractual conditions that erase their copyright, such as « buy out », were the main themes of the speeches.
