Copyright: Brussels Avoids a Controversial Reopening of the 2019 Directive
On May 18, the European Commission launched a call for contributions on the future of copyright, officially focused on evaluating the 2019 directive. But rather than reopening a text adopted after an extremely fierce political and industrial battle, Brussels is prioritizing a parallel future “targeted initiative” focusing in particular on generative AI, live content piracy, and the consequences of the RAAP ruling.
The European Commission officially launched its call for evidence on the future of European copyright on May 18, which will run until June 25, thereby confirming that it is preparing not only the evaluation of the 2019 Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market (CDSM Directive) but also a new legislative “targeted initiative.”…
