IA Act: France loses, and is seeking an interpretative statement

France won’t be able to get the vote on the European Artificial Intelligence Act blocked this Friday. The Elysée, under the aegis of Bercy, has fallen back on a desperate – and not easily won – attempt to obtain an interpretative statement from the European Commission, which goes its way.

It’s like a repeat of the famous « GAFAs tax », so much wanted and never obtained by Emmanuel Macron: the French government once again finds itself isolated in Brussels on a fundamental issue, this time that of the AI Act. As a reminder, this text will be voted on by member states at Coreper this Friday. The problem is that France doesn’t like what the European Parliament has done with the Act, particularly the requirement for transparency…
