IA Act: culture worried that the Commission’s latest draft does not respect EU copyright law

The cultural sector is outraged by the European Commission’s lack of ambition to protect copyright when it comes to implementing the IA Act.

To give effect to the obligations that the IA Act places on AI developers vis-à-vis copyright holders, the European Commission is due to adopt a « Code of Practice » over the next few months. A second draft of this Code was published at the end of December, based on a dialogue involving almost a thousand protagonists that began this summer. The cultural sector – music, audiovisual, press, visual arts, publishing – united today to express concern about the Commission’s proposals in this second draft. « If the draft is not substantially improved, the Code will not meet the objectives…
