AmCham Transatlantic Conference: European institutions at odds with each other
At the AmCham Transatlantic conference, American players in Europe voiced their doubts about the Trump method and threats of tariffs, while urging the EU to ease up on regulation. In the face of these doubts, the American embassy was conspicuous by its absence, while the European institutions laid bare their differences on the method to be followed.
Yesterday saw the annual transatlantic conference of the American Chamber of Commerce in Europe, AmCham EU, held in Brussels. Over the past few years, attendance at this event had all in all waned, by the admission of its chairman, Liam Benham, Boeing’s representative in France and Southern Europe. « We see that in years when the transatlantic relationship is going well, we have fewer people in the room. Today, we have a full house, » he said at the opening of the event, somewhat regretfully.
