European aid for the digital transition: nothing goes right
It’s the European Court of Auditors that says it all: the 150 billion in European funds urgently deployed after Covid and intended to accelerate the digital transition of EU states were distributed on the basis of unclear objectives and were subject to dubious management.
The European Court of Auditors (ECA) yesterday published its report entitled « Support from the Recovery and Resilience Facility for the Digital Transition in EU Member States – A missed opportunity to focus on strategy to meet digital needs ». A title that speaks volumes. The background is as follows: at the end of 2020, in the midst of a Covid-related panic, the European Union had approved a program named « Next Generation EU ».
