European Recovery Plan: Court of Auditors Highlights Lack of Transparency in Spending

In a report published today, the European Court of Auditors highlights significant shortcomings in the traceability of spending under the post-COVID recovery plan. Due to the lack of systematic data on actual costs and, in some cases, on beneficiaries, the effectiveness of the program cannot be fully assessed. France stands out for its less structured data collection, while the European Commission considers itself not required to gather this information.

The European Court of Auditors published a scathing report today highlighting the lack of transparency in spending under the European recovery plan. One point in particular has drawn criticism: France appears to be the least cooperative member state, lacking systematic data collection and sometimes taking “up to six months”…
