Protecting children or controlling the web: Europe’s dilemma

By advocating age verification via the European digital identity and the limitation of addictive designs, the European Parliament’s report on the protection of minors online goes beyond the single issue of childhood. Behind the promise of a safer Internet, some see the emergence of more intrusive regulation of digital behavior.
The European Parliament is set to vote on an own-initiative report by the Internal Market Committee (IMCO) on the protection of minors online during its plenary session starting November 24. We publish the latest version below, showing the latest compromise amendments, and which has not yet been consolidated and translated by the Parliament’s services.
