United States: Congress reopens the debate on artists’ rights on AM/FM radio
The American Music Fairness Act (AMFA), currently under consideration in the 119th US Congress, aims to establish remuneration for performers, backing vocalists, studio musicians and record owners when their tracks are broadcast on AM/FM radio. In the United States, only… songwriters and publishers currently receive royalties for these terrestrial broadcasts, unlike digital radio services. The bill, designated S. 326 in the Senate and H.R. 861 in the House of Representatives, provides for significantly reduced rates for small radio stations, with approximately $10 per year for those with revenues of less than $100,000, subject to certain conditions.
