AI Act Omnibus: political deadlock in Parliament, two-stage vote considered

The AI Act simplification project is bogged down in the European Parliament. According to our information, political groups are now considering splitting the vote on the text in order to circumvent an impasse on the most controversial measures, notably the powers of the European AI Office. This solution reveals the institutional tensions that already surround the implementation of the regulation.

The « Digital Omnibus » on the AI Act, presented by the European Commission as an exercise in technical simplification, could well get bogged down in the political balance of power in Parliament. According to our exclusive information, the adoption of the text could ultimately be split into two separate stages in order to break the deadlock between political groups.
