AI: Mensch’s Realism vs. Brussels’ Rhetoric
While Ursula von der Leyen asserts that Europe has the “right conditions” to become a global leader in AI, Arthur Mensch paints a much harsher—and undoubtedly more credible—picture. Testifying before the National Assembly, the head of Mistral AI acknowledges that Europe can still gain “leverage” in the global technology race. But he emphasizes above all its structural weaknesses: lack of investment, administrative roadblocks, energy lag, and an inability to use public procurement as an industrial weapon.
