Adoption of the AI Act: the creative industries are pleased, but not too pleased

It’s done: the European Parliament today adopted the European Regulation on Artificial Intelligence. The creative industries are applauding, but are already asking the European Parliament for help with the text’s implementing measures, which we already know will be the subject of lively debate with AI developers.

« We finally have the world’s first binding law on artificial intelligence, to reduce risks, create opportunities, fight discrimination and bring transparency », rejoiced the text’s rapporteur Brando Benifei (S&D, Italy), on the occasion of the adoption of the European AI Regulation by the Strasbourg assembly. In particular, the text lays down pre-marketing obligations for AI tools deemed high-risk due to their significant potential harm to health, safety, fundamental rights, the environment, democracy and the rule of law.
