New European Commission: no major cultural or digital posts for France
If the draft European Commission presented today by Ursula von der Leyen is confirmed by the European Parliament, the digital, audiovisual and copyright portfolio will go to right-wing Finnish Henna Vikkunen, and that of youth and culture to Maltese socialist Glenn Micallef.
Ursula von der Leyen today presented the European Commission she is putting to the vote in the European Parliament. Prior to this, she had taken care last night to specify that the Internal Market portfolio of the now former Commissioner Thierry Breton would revert to Margrethe Vestager. During the few weeks remaining to the current Commission, the Dane will be responsible for DG Connect, and thus for the IA Act implementing acts and the various procedures launched under the Digital Services Act.
