Henna Virkkunen is convincing on form, but unclear on substance

Probable future head of digital and copyright at the European Commission, Henna Virkkunen conducted her hearing calmly and competently, but without providing any precise information on her future action, the scope of which remains unclear.

The parliamentary marathon of hearings for the Commissioners-designate came to an end last night with the hearing of Henna Virkkunen. Henna Virkkunen is a former Finnish journalist and minister, and is expected to take on the roles of Executive Vice-President for Technological Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, and Commissioner for Digital Technologies and Advanced Industries. She was also a member of the European Parliament for ten years, during which time she was rapporteur on the Digital Services Act, making her an ideal candidate for the position she is expected to occupy. The European Parliament will now go through its internal process of confirming candidates.
