Dismantling Google: more likely under Trump than Harris

Google is the subject of a double lawsuit by Joe Biden’s administration, which could lead to its dismantling. Ironically, it seems that Donald Trump’s teams are more enthusiastic about bringing these lawsuits to a successful conclusion than the Kamala Harris administration would have been.

In a few days’ time, Joe Biden’s administration will publish its recommendations regarding the follow-up to last August’s ruling, in which the US District Court in Washington concluded that Google had violated the law in order to maintain its status as a monopolistic search engine. Among the charges was the fact that it had entered into preferential contracts with phone manufacturers and web browser developers to promote Google Search. So we’ll finally know whether the Department of Justice (DoJ) favors a « break up » of the Mountain View giant, or lighter remedies such as a ban on entering into contracts to showcase its engine.
