EU Commission wants to strengthen European intellectual property
In a report, the European Commission describes the hazardous situation of European intellectual property, and introduces an action plan. It includes the setting up of a genuine European patent at a maximum cost of 10,000 euros, as well as an update to the protection of designs. At the heart of the commission’s action plan, the implementation of the Copyright and SatCab II directives.
Yesterday, the European Commission released its Action Plan « Making the most of the EU’s innovative potential. An intellectual property action plan to support the EU’s recovery and resilience. ». In its introduction, the Commission notes that « industries that make intensive use of IP play an essential role in the EU economy and offer valuable and sustainable jobs to society. IPR-intensive industries currently account for almost 45% of Europe’s GDP and directly contribute to the creation of almost 30% of all jobs ».
