Tensions at the European Commission over the creative industries portfolio
The European Commission’s handling of the cultural sector is currently split between DG Connect and DG Education, Youth and Culture (DG EAC). The question of a complete transfer of all matters relating to creation – regulation, support programs, accompaniment – to DG EAC alone is once again back in the spotlight.
As we explained here, the summer following a European election is a period of negotiations, around « top jobs » of course, but also about the structuring of the European Commission’s services. One of the most sought-after « top jobs » is that of European Commissioner for Internal Market, Thierry Breton’s current title, which gives the incumbent the responsibility to lead DG Connect.
